‘If my daughter is assaulted and raped’: Watch DSA spokeswoman give absurd answer to defund-the-police question

In the category of “not ready for prime time,” another spokeswoman for the Democratic Socialists of America struggled to explain the group’s radical agenda – in this case the desire to defund police and close jails and prisons.

It was Los Angeles’ NBC anchor Conan Nolan who interviewed DSA National Political Committee Member Frances Gill on Sunday. The DSA has garnered national attention as many of its members have won Democrat primary elections in recent months.

“What we really want to see is a horizon where folks are not reliant on armed enforcement to meet our public safety needs,” Gill told Nolan.

The anchor then presented a powerful scenario to Gill: “If my daughter is assaulted and raped, is there any agency that would seek to find her assailant and bring him to justice?”

Responded Gill, “Of course, yeah, of course.”

Nolan then challenged, “What would it be if not police and where would he be if not a jail?”

“So I guess I really want to avoid getting caught into these hypotheticals and talk about the reality that we’re actually facing right now,” Gill stated, eventually settling on the solution of increasing the number of street lights in Los Angeles as a means toward greater public safety. She also invoked a Kamala-ism, stressing the need to address “root causes” of criminals’ behavior.

X users didn’t hold back:

“The idea that installing more *streetlights* will stop crime is like a four-year-old’s solution.”

“Ummm rapes are not ‘hypothetical.’ I want to hear where the rapist will be housed, you lunatics.”

“Worth keeping in mind this is one of the more thoughtful, eloquent people the DSA could find.”

“Well, insofar as the root causes of what drives most people to commit actual crimes is stupidity, eliminating the ‘root causes’ would require a rather radical solution.”
