Rusty Humphries |
Don't let the name fool you. The speaking pipes of Rusty Humphries function like a well-oiled engine. The talk-radio sensation currently is powering a nationwide tour that's picking up electoral momentum and fresh recruits for the tea-party movement before bringing the enthusiasm he's helping generate to Miami as a speaker at WND's "Taking America Back Conference" Sept. 16-18 at the Doral Resort.
Hosting rallies that have touched down in Las Vegas and Atlanta and are headed to Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., Humphries is one of several notable newsmakers at the WND conference, which has made numerous headlines itself.
After announcing a highly anticipated debate between WND Founder and CEO Joseph Farah and a representative of GOProud, the "Taking America Back Conference" is providing a peek at its program
Arranged in several subsections, the conference is "addressing several foundational subjects essential to understanding the threats to our freedom and devising the best ways to defeat them," Farah said.
TRENDING: Jihad against Christians is due to … climate change?
"Anticipation for November is high and the electoral predictions for a resounding rejection of Obama's socialist remaking of America look very promising," said Farah. "As I predicted two years ago, Obama and his congressional cronies are awakening Americans to the horrors of government's heavy hand, and this conference is about coming together to articulate a clear vision of affirmatives about what it means to shake that yoke off and demand the individual independence and opportunity the Constitution enshrines."
The "Taking America Back Conference" identifies three categories of crisis: A Constitutional Crisis, The Economic Crisis and The Morality Crisis.
A Constitutional Crisis kicks off with Farah's "Taking America Back," followed by Aaron Klein on his New York Times best-seller "The Manchurian President." Floyd Brown outlines "The Case for Impeaching Barack Obama." Gary Cass reminds on "The Founders' Ideals in the Declaration of Independence." And Michael Farris of Home School Legal Defense Association warns about "The Threat to Constitutional Government Posted by International Law."
The Economic Crisis has financial expert Mark Graham "Defining the Economic Crisis" and Jerome Corsi on his New York Times best-seller "America for Sale." Robert Knight of Coral Ridge Ministries asks the provocative question, "Is Communism a Better Way?"
The Morality Crisis includes Gary DeMar on "America's Christian Heritage," a "Strategic Briefing" by scientist and Bible teacher Chuck Missler and "Biblical Economics" by author R.C. Sproul Jr.
Author and speaker Judith Reisman, whose nationally recognized research is cited extensively in arguments about the physiological dangers of pornography, expounds on the surprising identity of "The Man Who Mainstreamed Perversion." Jordan Lorence educates on "The American University: Church of the Secular Left." Jerry Newcombe of "The Coral Ridge Hour" reveals "The Book That Made America." And drawing on the sequel to his best-seller, "The Marketing of Evil," David Kupelian shows "How Evil Works."
Other categories waste little wordage identifying national and international dangers: The category Responding to the Left features renowned author William Federer on "Power Corrupts" and Rick Scarborough on "What You Believe Determines What You Do!" Author and broadcaster Doug Giles advises on "Raising Rowdy Kids in a Rank Day." Molotov Mitchell, Tim Daughtry and Alexander Snitker round out the category's contributors.
The Islamic Threat hosts Klein on "The Islamic Dream: The Destruction of Israel" and William Murray of the Religious Freedom Coalition and son of notorious atheist Madeline Murray O'Hair will speak on "The Manhattan Mosque."
Law and Disorder has Matt Barber asking "Is the Constitution a Relevant Document?" and Shawn Akers asking, "Is the Constitution a Concise Document?" before Alan Keyes answers what's proven to be the most destructive question in contemporary U.S. history, "Is the Constitution a Living Document?"
The Consequences of Ideas features Tom Tancredo on "Invasion: The Erosion of America's Sovereign Borders," Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on "Restoring the Republic," Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., on "How Should We Then Vote?" and Bernie DeCastro on "The Consequences of a Secular Society." And "Saturday Night Live" veteran Victoria Jackson will provide entertainment with "Thou Shalt Not Laugh."

The section on Race and Liberty is highlighted by Adm. Jeremiah Denton, who recounts surviving eight years as prisoner of war in the infamous North Vietnamese Hanoi Hilton in his "When Hell Was in Session," speaks on "In the Valley of the Shadow of Death." And Humphries will inform on "The Loss of Liberty in a Free Society."
The numerous panel discussions promise illuminating exchanges, including one entitled "Should Faith and Reliance Upon God be a Major Integral Theme of the Tea-Party Movement?"
Finally, Farah will debate GOProud's Christopher Barron on the topic "Is GOProud conservative?"
In a showdown he describes as "historic," Farah recently wrote, "It is my intention to expose GOProud's real agenda – pushing the special interests of homosexual activists inside the conservative movement, gaining acceptance for radical ideas like same-sex marriage from those who should be opposing them and softening up opposition to ideas that are anti-American, anti-God and affirm sin."
Barron told WND that Farah's positions didn't dissuade him from participating in the debate, and he's eager to speak to the organization's effort "with the conservative movement."
"(Farah's) position on this is clear, and we certainly responded in the press to things that he has said," Barron said. "I think we're going to have a lively debate. It's going to be clear from the onset that Mr. Farah and I have different beliefs, and this is a good opportunity to debate what each of us believes.
"We're a conservative organization," he said, citing "our work with folks with the conservative movement, our work with folks within the House and Senate, our work on conservative pieces of legislation. I'm absolutely confident debating whether or not GOProud is a conservative organization."
Farah "ignited" a strong reaction when he disinvited Ann Coulter as keynote speaker to WND's conference for giving a paid speaking engagement at GOProud's fall Homocon event. He criticized her appearance as "validating" GOProud's support of same-sex marriage, hate-crimes legislation and open homosexuality in the military.
The conservatives supportive of GOProud, including Conservative Political Action Conference organizer Grover Norquist and soft-on-same-sex marriage Glenn Beck, either "didn't bother to read GOProud's own website or they felt their own values were an expendable inconvenience," Farah said. "Either scenario spells trouble for a political brand that fancies itself the answer to mass dissatisfaction with Washington."
