Picture for a moment that you live in a small town in Alabama in 1850 and that you are a black man – a slave. A young white girl has been raped and you were seen in the vicinity of the crime about 24 hours before it happened. The local paper picks up the story and writes that you, a black man, were in the neighborhood of this white girl and appeared to be "casing out" the location where the white girl lived. The article in the paper asked, "Why were you, a black man, in a white neighborhood, if not for some evil purpose?"

Because of that article, practically every white man is at the local bar discussing the crime. Blacks and women could not vote. A quorum is present. Emotions rise and the stories get bigger. By the end of the evening, every white man in town believes that you raped the little girl.

A gentleman who seems reasonable stands on a bar stool and asks for everyone's attention. All is quiet as he asks for cooler heads to prevail, and then says that democracy must prevail and that they need to have a vote to determine what the majority wants to do about the situation.

Here are the choices that he proposes to the group: vote "guilty" and you will be lynched; or vote "not guilty" and they will do nothing.

He then asks for all those who think that you are guilty to raise their hands. At first, only a few hands go up. Then the bullies in the crowd start prodding others and more hands go up until almost all hands are raised. Feeling that they followed due process of democracy, the crowd then lights torches, one man grabs a rope, and they all start marching down the street to lynch you.

Is this democracy? Yes, but is it correct? Of course not.

Did the voters have a choice? Yes, but did that choice represent all the choices available to the people? No.

Did the newspaper state any incorrect facts? No. But did the editor practice responsible journalism? Of course not!

Did the election process follow a democratic process? Yes, but did it violate many of the tenets of individual rights and of the law? Of course it did!
This story is just one example of the tyranny of the majority. This is exactly why our Founding Fathers developed a Constitution for the United States. The majority can be manipulated by the press. The majority can be pushed and prodded by bullies. Our choices can be limited by how politicians word those choices. And decisions can be made that violate the rights of the citizenry. So our Constitution places safeguards for the rights of individuals and for the rights of states that have higher priority than the will of the majority.

Today, our courts, our legislatures and the president – along with the media – are using the tyranny of the majority to justify actions that violate those basic rights established in our Constitution.

Look at Card Check and how it allows bullies to manipulate union voting. Look at how the courts are ignoring requests to investigate the passports and the college documents of Barack Obama that would ensure he is qualified to be president. Look at how the media continue their bias in what they report, what they omit and how they present the news. Look at how our Congress violates states' rights as established in the 10th Amendment to the Constitution with "cap-and-trade," "health-care reform" and the ever-increasing size of the federal government and taxes.

Even lawmakers like Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., say that Obama is qualified to be president because he got the most votes, and that this is more important than what is on his birth certificate, his passports or his college documents. Does Sen. Martinez understand the significance of this?  Effectively, our legislators are saying that the tyranny of the majority is more important than the law – so anyone who can manipulate the majority can "rule" with little regard of the law.

We are witnessing the manipulation of the masses in order to implement programs that violate our Constitution by using the tyranny of the majority.

When the government violated the rights of Americans in 1776, 30 percent of Americans pledged their lives and fortunes to end it. That minority of Americans forced a revolution that saved liberty and gave birth to the USA. Do we have such courageous people today who will stand up to stop this manipulation of the people that violates our Constitution?

Evil people are destroying America, and we need to Save America now – before it is too late.
